Johannes Winkler is a Vienna-based composer, producer, orchestrator, and multi-instrumentalist whose work spans contemporary classical music, film scoring, and immersive electronic sound design. Recognized for his cinematic approach to composition and genre-defying productions, he has established himself as one of the most versatile voices emerging from Austria's modern composition scene.
With a Master's Degree with distinction from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Winkler combines classical craftsmanship, jazz influences, and cutting-edge production techniques into a distinctive musical language. His compositions have been featured in internationally acclaimed productions, including Netflix Dogs, Someone Like Me, and Perla, and he has collaborated with Academy Award-winning directors including Roger Ross Williams, Dan Lindsay, and T.J. Martin. Since 2016, he has maintained a long-standing creative partnership with Canadian composer Edo Van Breemen, earning international recognition and a Canadian Screen Award nomination for their work.
Beyond film, Winkler has developed an increasingly visible artistic career through original releases and interdisciplinary collaborations. His debut album Vogelperspektive introduced a sound world where orchestral textures, ambient electronics, and acoustic instrumentation merge into expansive sonic landscapes. More recently, his collaboration with internationally acclaimed violinist Rusanda Panfili has brought his music to a global streaming audience.
Their album Echoes explores themes of space, science, and human curiosity through cinematic neoclassical composition, while the single Fragments has surpassed one million streams on Spotify.
