The Jane Goodall EARTH Medal is a new global recognition dedicated to planetary stewardship, environmental leadership, and the protection of life on Earth.
Created within the spirit of Starmus, the medal honors individuals whose work advances our understanding of the natural world and whose actions help safeguard the future of our planet. It celebrates those who unite science, courage and responsibility — leaders who recognize that knowledge must serve life.
Dr. Jane Goodall’s lifelong dedication to science, conservation and humanity embodies the values this medal represents. Her work transformed how we see our relationship with nature and reminded the world that every individual can make a difference.
The Jane Goodall Earth Medal was established with the understanding that recipients would initially be selected by the STARMUS Advisory Board, in close alignment with the vision and values of Dr. Jane Goodall. This approach ensured that the first laureates reflected the spirit of the Medal: recognizing individuals and organizations whose work contributes meaningfully to the protection of life on Earth, environmental stewardship, and the future of our planet.
As the Medal evolves, STARMUS plans to broaden the nomination process and open it to the international community. Leading scientific institutions, environmental organizations, universities, cultural bodies, and other relevant entities may be invited to submit nominations from around the world.
In addition, STARMUS may establish expert judging panels in specific categories — such as environmental leadership, conservation, science communication, education, technology for sustainability, and arts for Earth awareness — to review nominations and provide recommendations.
The final decision will remain with the STARMUS Advisory Board, ensuring consistency with the mission of the Jane Goodall Earth Medal and preserving its independence, integrity, and global prestige.
