Starmus VIII
Reid Wiseman is a NASA astronaut, retired U.S. Navy captain, test pilot, engineer, and father who has led in some of the world’s most demanding environments. A Baltimore native and 27-year Navy veteran, Captain Wiseman has flown over 30 different aircraft, rotorcraft, and spacecraft.  He logged two and a half years at sea and flew combat missions in the F-14D Tomcat and F/A-18F Super Hornet during four deployments to the Middle East. A member of the 20th astronaut class selected in 2009, Captain Wiseman’s NASA achievements include serving as Chief Astronaut as well as commander of NASA’s 21st Extreme Environment Mission Operations expedition living for eight days in a habitat on the ocean floor. Captain Wiseman spent 175 days in space across two missions. In 2014, he served as US segment lead and flight engineer aboard the International Space Station, where he conducted hundreds of scientific experiments and led two spacewalks. Most recently, he served as Commander for NASA’s Artemis II mission on a historic journey around the Moon and safely back to Earth alongside Victor, Christina, and Jeremy. Beyond the achievements, Captain Wiseman brings a deeply human perspective shaped by teamwork, resilience, and service. Through it all, his greatest dedication remains his family, and navigating the challenges of single fatherhood. Today, he draws on lessons from aviation, exploration, leading, and following when the stakes are highest to help others build strong teams, make sound decisions under pressure, lead with integrity, pursue ambitious goals with purpose, and create a meaningful impact.
