The first Armenian symphony orchestra was established in 1924, in the Conservatory, by the efforts of Aleksandr Spendiaryan, the famous Armenian composer and Arshak Adamyan, the rector of the Conservatory. On May 5, 1932 decision was made to establish Opera Theatre in Yerevan city. Implementation of this important decision was made possible thanks to huge works directed to development and growing of musical staff in Yerevan Conservatory over the past decade. It is worth mentioning that the Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Arshak Adamyan) and the Chorus (choirmasters Romanos Melikyan, Spiridon Melikyan) of Yerevan Conservatory were almost entirely involved in the orchestra and chorus of the Opera Theatre; the best soloist students were trusted the responsible roles of the Opera playlist, and Gevorg Budaghyan and Suren Charekyan, the masters of Conservatory Opera Orchestra classes became the first conductors of the Opera Theatre. The Symphony Orchestra of the A. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre gave several tours in a number of countries. A. Tigranyan’s “Anush”, A. Khachaturyan’s “Gayane”, T. Chukhajyan’s “Arshak II”, G. Donizetti’s “Poliuto”, V. Bellini’s “Norma”, A. Adan’s “Giselle”, G. Verdi’s “Othello”, “Traviata” and other opera and ballet performances, as well as a number of concert programs have been presented to the foreign audience. Now, the acting director of the Theatre is Honored artist of RA Karen Durgaryan.
