Sara García Alonso, born in 1989 in León, Spain, is a prominent biotechnologist and cancer researcher. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology in 2012 and a master’s degree in Biomedical and Biological Research in 2013, both from the University of León. In 2018, she completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology of Cancer and Translational Medicine at the University of Salamanca, where her dissertation was awarded “cum laude” and received the Outstanding Doctorate Award in 2019.
Since 2019, García has been working as an advanced biomedical scientist at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), leading projects in experimental oncology and drug discovery. In November 2022, she was selected as a reserve astronaut for the European Space Agency (ESA), marking a significant milestone in her career. She began her ESA training in October 2024, preparing for potential future space missions.
García is also active in science communication and volunteer work, collaborating with the Spanish Association Against Cancer and organizing scientific workshops and congresses. Her diverse skills and dedication to both research and public engagement make her a notable figure in the scientific community.
