Jim Bell is a renowned planetary scientist, educator, author, and public speaker. He is a professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University and has been heavily involved in NASA’s solar system exploration missions, including the Mars rovers Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity. Bell’s research focuses on the surface composition and geology of planets, moons, asteroids, and comets, utilizing multispectral imaging and spectroscopy. Bell has authored several popular science books, such as “Postcards from Mars” and “The Interstellar Age,” and has received numerous accolades for his work in science communication, including the Carl Sagan Medal for Excellence in Public Communication from the American Astronomical Society. He served as the President of The Planetary Society from 2008 to 2020, where he played a key role in advocating for space exploration.
