ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is a large-scale scientific project aimed at demonstrating the feasibility of fusion energy for peaceful purposes. Established by an international agreement in 2006, ITER is a collaboration among seven members: China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, and the United States. The project is based in Saint-Paul-lez-Durance, France, and involves constructing the world's largest tokamak, a magnetic fusion device designed to prove the viability of fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy. ITER's mission is to advance fusion science and technology to the point where fusion power can be integrated into the global energy mix.
