Itahiza Domínguez Cerdeña, born in Fuerteventura (Canary Islands, Spain) is the coordinator of the Volcanic Monitoring Unit of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) in Tenerife since 2023.
He graduated in Physics in 2001 at the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain), he developed his doctoral thesis at the University of Göttingen (Germany) on the magnetic fields of the Sun and received his PhD degree in 2004.
In 2007 he started as a Seismologist at the IGN where he has been working since then in the volcanic monitoring group of Tenerife.
He has actively participated in the volcano monitoring of the last two eruptions in the Canary Islands: the 2011 submarine eruption in El Hierro and the 2021 eruption in La Palma. In addition, part of his work consists of communicating and disseminating information to the population about the volcanic phenomenon both through social networks and the media.
