Starmus La Palma
The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is a multinational project dedicated to building the world's largest and most powerful observatory for gamma-ray astronomy. With two arrays of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes located in the Northern Hemisphere on the Spanish island of La Palma and in the Southern Hemisphere in the Atacama Desert in Chile, CTAO aims to explore high-energy phenomena in the universe, such as cosmic particles, supermassive black holes, and dark matter. Established as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) in January 2025, CTAO is committed to advancing scientific knowledge, promoting global cooperation, and making its data and software tools accessible to all.
