Last Thursday, December 6th, STARMUS hosted a special event in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the film Interstellar. The event highlighted the film’s scientific script by Kip Thorne, its acclaimed soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, and its director Christopher Nolan, who recently received the Stephen Hawking Medal at the latest STARMUS edition.

During the celebration, STARMUS launched INTERSCHOLAR the education program for schools. This initiative, led by STARMUS, aims to bring science and music to younger generations. The program features ambassadors such as science communicator Javier Santaolalla and the popular Latin pop-rock band Efecto Pasillo. Winners of the project will have the opportunity to attend STARMUS La Palma, meet the ambassadors, and interact with scientists, astronauts, and artists, providing them with a lifetime of inspiration.

Additionally, STARMUS premiered an Interstellar tribute music video recorded at the Great Telescope of La Palma, the world’s largest optical infrared telescope. The video features performances by Javier Santaolalla on piano and Javier Moreno, drummer of Efecto Pasillo, on drums. The live virtual premiere of the video took place last night, December 11th, and attracted over 7,000 attendees.

The event in Gran Canaria brought together a diverse audience, including a wide range of science communicators and institutions, embodying the essence of STARMUS by combining science and music. It concluded with a vibrant performance by Efecto Pasillo, who sang their most popular themes and the song “UNIVERSO,” which was composed together with scientific divulgator Javier Santaolalla.
